Night time outdoor wedding in Yosemite

Kate got married outside at night in the middle of winter (barefoot too, and sh was really hoping for snow!) at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park.

I had two cameras. One of them on me with a flash to capture the wedding as it happened with good lighting. But I knew that this alone would not convey the full impact of being outside at night, so I had a second camera on a tripod. I used 15 second exposures to capture both the light and the feeling of the wedding. In some of the images, you can see me and the flash my camera produced more than once in the same frame.

I’ve included not only 15 second exposure images, but also a few of the “regular” shots from the wedding, for context, and because I like them.

Bride and groom in snow covered meadow with a view of snow capped half doom. winter wedding in yosemite national park

Arleen and Byron got married in January of 2006 in Yosemite National Park. They were lucky beyond belief, the weather was perfect. The day BEFORE the wedding, it snowed. The roads closed, nothing happened. The day of the wedding, it was sunny and almost warm. The roads were open, but there was still a wonderful carpet of snow on everything!

Their wedding ceremony was below Bridal Veil Falls. Their wedding reception was at Yosemite Lodge. The photos were taken all over the valley.

Bride and Groom walk each other down isle wedding Evergreen Lodge in Goveland, CA

Lisa and Chris got married at the Evergreen Lodge in Goveland, CA. They were on the older side of brides and grooms. (Not old, jut older than most first timers). Something I noticed with couples that are in their 30’s and 40’s when they get married. They stress a lot less about every little detail, and bring their own personal ascetic to the wedding instead. It’s quite nice really.

Bride and Groom on balcony of Chateau Du Sureau and Erna's Elderberry House wedding photos

Nadine and Stephen got married last winter at the amazing Chateau Du Sureau and Erna’s Elderberry House in Oakhurst California. (Oakhurst is 1/2 way between Fresno and Yosemite)

Chateau Du Sureau is exquisitely beautiful, and I’ve been told that Erna’s Elderberry House is one of the few 5 star restaurants in the country.
